In early August, we stayed at Club Med Tomamu for three nights with my mother. We had two connecting rooms, which allowed my mother and my family to stay close together, and we truly had a wonderful time.
Over the years, I have visited many resorts and hotels in destinations such as the Maldives, Singapore, Bali, Phuket, Khao Lak, and Nha Trang. Among all the places I have experienced, I can confidently say that the buffet at Club Med Tomamu was one of the best.
At each section, chefs prepared and served food right in front of us, and the unlimited beer and wine made the meals even more enjoyable. The quality and variety of the food were simply outstanding.
Our daughter also absolutely loved the Mini Club. In particular, I had been a little worried about whether she would be able to participate in the flying trapeze during the morning session. She is usually rather quiet and somewhat introverted, so I honestly did not know how she would react.
But with the encouragement and support of the G.O.s — and perhaps because something changed inside her that day — she climbed all the way up on her own and actually performed on the flying trapeze.
Watching her high above the ground, overcoming her fear and trying something completely new, made me think that perhaps this is one of the greatest gifts of traveling: giving children opportunities to experience something new, challenge themselves, and grow.
That moment made our stay at Club Med Tomamu even more special and meaningful.
My mother also kept telling us how wonderful the place was and how grateful she was that we had brought her on this trip. Hearing her say those things made me especially thankful to my wife, who was actually the first person to suggest that we invite my mother to travel with us.
It also reminded me once again that I should work harder, live more sincerely, and make every day count so that I can always be someone my family can be proud of.
The many activities at Tomamu also made our stay much richer and more enjoyable.
While our daughter was at Mini Club, my mother and my wife tried archery. The session was led by a Malaysian G.O. — I will come back to him later.
Meanwhile, I took tennis lessons. On the first day, my instructor was Japanese, and on the second day, I believe my instructor was Mexican — or at least I remember him as a very cheerful and friendly guy!
What I appreciated so much was that Club Med was not only fun for children. Adults could also find plenty of activities and genuinely enjoy their own time. That made the entire experience even more satisfying for our family.
There was another experience that made our stay especially memorable.
On the first day, after checking in, I went to Unkai Bar on the third floor for a drink. I started talking with the bartender, and we soon realized that we were both Korean.
As we talked, he asked if he could join our family for dinner.
To be completely honest, I was a little surprised at first. My wife had mentioned this unique Club Med culture to me before, and suddenly I remembered what she had told me, so I quickly understood.
I told him that I would ask my family first, and everyone happily said yes.
If I remember correctly, his name was Dan.
While we were having dinner and talking about different things, Jake came over and asked if he could join us as well. Of course, we said yes.
Listening to Dan and Jake talk about their lives, their courage, and their decision to challenge themselves by working overseas was genuinely inspiring. I could feel their passion and adventurous spirit, and something about their stories really resonated with me.
After that, we ended up sharing almost every meal together.
When my mother learned more about the G.O. dining culture, she even told them, “If you ever cannot find a table to eat at, just come and sit with us!”
On our final evening, Dan, Jake, and the Malaysian G.O. who had led the archery session joined us again.
I am very sorry that I cannot remember his name.
But please know that both my mother and my wife remember you very well. Thank you so much for being so kind to them. Our whole family remembers you as such a cheerful, friendly, and memorable person.
That night, we stayed together until quite late, having drinks and talking about many different things.
After speaking English for hours, I suddenly felt my English coming back to me. It even reminded me of my younger days when I studied abroad and somehow became much more fluent in English after a few drinks!
It was simply a wonderful evening.

Thank you for being so kind, thoughtful, and attentive to us as guests. You helped turn our vacation into a memory that our family will remember for a very long time.
On our final day, after checking out and preparing to leave for the airport, we said goodbye to Dan and Jake.
If I remember correctly, Dan even came out although it was his day off, which honestly touched me very much.
Our Malaysian friend could not be there because he was busy leading the archery activity — responsibility comes first!
Seeing Dan and Jake waving the Club Med flags as we left was the final image of our stay at Tomamu.
It was a perfect ending to a wonderful trip.
When I returned to Korea, I originally intended to send an email immediately to share our experience. However, everyday life became busy again, and time passed much faster than I expected.
Now, as the weather in Korea has become cooler and we have finally found a little breathing room before the holiday season, I wanted to take this opportunity to share our memories and feelings.
To be honest, Club Med is still on our list of possible destinations for our next vacation.
We are considering Phuket, or perhaps the newly opened Club Med resort in Malaysia. I have seen some reviews that make me hesitate a little, which is unfortunate because the Club Med that we personally experienced at Tomamu was completely different.
Our experience was truly exceptional.
It is difficult to express in words just how wonderful our time at Club Med Tomamu was, or to fully describe every emotion we felt during those special moments together as a family.
Thank you to everyone at Club Med Tomamu for giving us such an unforgettable experience.
And once again, a very special thank you to Dan, Jake, our wonderful Malaysian archery G.O., and all the G.O.s who made our family feel so welcome.
We will remember this trip for a very long time.
