Bye Bye Plastic
Bye bye Plastic
Launched in 2018, the program aimed to eliminate single-use plastic in the bars, restaurants and rooms by 2023.
Bye bye Plastic
Club Med has been committed to protecting the environment since its inception. Being aware of the impact of our activities on the planet, we adapt our methods to the changing environmental issues.
The Bye Bye Plastic program is one of the many actions we implement.
What is the program?
How do we implement it in our facilities and what impact does it have on our members?
You can find our answers here.
How is Club Med putting its plan into action?
Club Med responds to the challenges of environmental protection with various measures to protect nature. To promote sustainable tourism, we have joined the International Tourism Plastic Pledge program. The goal: We commit to reduce the production of plastic waste.
The launch and goals of the Bye Bye Plastic program.
Launched in 2018, the Bye Bye Plastic program is divided into three phases. The principle is to phase out single-use plastic packaging and accessories. Club Med then gave itself three years to achieve the goals set:
- Eliminate single-use plastic cutlery from the end of 2019;
- Eliminate plastic accessories in the rooms by the end of 2020;
- Replacement of plastic bottles from the year 2021, wherever possible.
Today, these goals are mostly achieved, as the rules are implemented in the majority of our resorts. Disposable cutlery has completely disappeared from our restaurants. In addition, only our resorts in Brazil and those in the Exclusive Collection still offer individual care products packaged in plastic.
Why these actions?
Respect for the environment and preservation of nature are close to your heart? You are already environmentally conscious in your daily life and you want to limit the impact of your travels on our planet? Club Med is committed to sustainable tourism and offers an accommodation solution that matches your values.
The elimination of plastic products and accessories has helped to significantly reduce waste production. In addition to the environmental benefits, this also meets our customers' desire for environmentally friendly tourism.
What changes will the Bye Bye Plastic program bring to members?
Are you planning to stay at a Club Med Resort? The care for our planet does not induce any reduction in the quality of the services we offer to our members.
Plastic is eliminated, but your comfort remains:
The goal of the Bye-Bye Plastic program is to eliminate all plastic products and accessories in the long term. However, this is not to be done at the expense of our customers. Since your well-being and satisfaction are our top priorities, we strive to provide concrete solutions to ensure your comfort.
Hygiene products and accessories are still available to our members. Only the packaging has been eliminated. For example, cotton pads, cotton swabs and manicure sets are packaged in paper bags or pouches.
Products and accessories provided in the mini-kitchen are also included (coffee pods, powdered sugar sachets, etc.).
Alternatives to Plastic.
The Bye Bye Plastic program is being introduced gradually. We are developing alternative solutions to provide our customers with equivalent performance while reducing the use of plastic. For example, we are replacing individual shampoo and shower gel bottles with large, reusable containers.
We offer glass bottles and bottles made from recycled plastic. We provide water dispensers at Resorts and sell water bottles in our boutiques. In addition, we no longer give out throw-away plastic water bottles at the beginning of hikes, and encourage our members to fill their own reusable bottles.
