Cabin baggage and check-in luggage rules
CABIN BAGGAGE
Most airlines allow one piece of cabin baggage per passenger, subject to the dimensions and weight imposed by each airline. Failure to comply with these rules may result in additional charges. Here is some general information:
- Standard dimensions: Often limited to 55 x 35 x 25 cm
- Weight: mostly between 5 kg and 18 kg
- Items not allowed: Sharp instruments (knife, scissors, etc.), work tools (drill, saw, hammer, etc.), blunt objects (baseball bat, skateboard, etc.)
Liquids in cabin baggage?
Liquids and aerosols must be contained in bottles of 100 ml maximum each, and must be packed in a transparent bag with a maximum capacity of one litre. The 100ml rule is the same in all countries, for all air travel.
CHECK-IN LUGGAGE
The number of included check-in luggage items depends on the class of your ticket and the airline's policy.
General information:
- Weight: Between 20 kg and 32 kg for standard baggage
- Dimensions: The sum of the three dimensions (length, width, height) must not exceed 158 cm.
- Additional fees: In the case of additional or overweight baggage, additional fees may apply.
Please note that the information on baggage rules presented here is based on general standards, but each airline may apply its own policies. Please consult your airline's baggage policy page directly (see list below).
Tips for packing your luggage
To travel with a peace of mind and enjoy your holiday to the full, it's essential to pack well. Here are a few tips to follow:
Organisation and storage:
To maximise the space in your suitcase, try to roll your clothes rather than folding them: this reduces creases and optimises space.
Place heavy items (shoes, toiletries) at the bottom of your suitcase, near the wheels, to prevent lighter items from being crushed.
Use airtight bags for liquids and pack them in outside pockets so that they are readily available for security checks.
Remember to take a few empty plastic bags with you to store dirty or damp clothes.
Finally, think about weighing your suitcase at home to avoid any unpleasant surprises at the airport.
Labelling and Security:
Make sure that each piece of baggage is tagged with your full contact details (name, address, telephone number).
Essential items in the cabin: Keep everything you may need during the flight close at hand: your travel documents (passport, tickets, reservations), your essential medicines, as well as essential items such as a toilet bag (compliant with liquid restrictions), a jacket, a phone charger and headphones.
Avoid packing valuables (such as electronics, jewellery or money) in check-in baggages, as they are more likely to get lost or damaged.
Preparing for security checks:
To pass through security checks quickly, make sure you follow the rules for liquids in the cabin: these must be placed in containers of 100 ml maximum and stored together in a clear plastic bag of 1 litre max. capacity.
Place this bag and your electronic devices (laptop, tablet) within easy reach, as they will have to be removed from your baggage for screening.
